As a naturopathic doctor, I often face imposter syndrome. Can you imagine?
People trust me with their digestive health, yet my own gut health is still a work in progress. Patients open up about deep emotional struggles, and I, too, am actively working through my own.
Some mornings, I wake up thinking,
“How can I help others heal when I’m still healing myself?”
But then, there’s another voice—one that comes from wisdom, not fear.
And it reminds me:
“Your personal healing journey is your greatest gift to others.”
Naturopathic medicine is built on six guiding principles:
- First, do no harm
- The healing power of nature
- Identify and treat the root cause
- Doctor as teacher
- Treat the whole person
- Prevention
But there’s an unspoken seventh principle, one that is just as important:
Physician, heal thyself.
I am no different than the people I treat. I’ve experienced:
- Crippling anxiety & panic attacks
- Public speaking fears
- Digestive struggles, bloating, & constipation
- Stress that shows up in my body—fatigue, hair loss, and tension
But the truth is, healing is not about perfection—it’s about growth.
Our symptoms are messages, guiding us toward deeper healing. They are not obstacles; they are teachers.
Recently, I reassessed my health and realized I still had more to heal. So I embarked on a new phase of my journey:
- Working with my own coaches to uncover and heal unconscious patterns
- Running new bloodwork to gain deeper insights into my health
- Adjusting my nutrition & supplements based on new findings
- Exploring new routines & practices to increase my energy and vitality
Healing is an ongoing process—a cycle of learning, evolving, and becoming more aligned with who we truly are.
We live in a world that often prioritizes convenience over health, fear over love, and quick fixes over deep healing.
But here’s the truth: Healing is not just about the body—it’s about the mind, spirit, and heart.
We are all walking this journey together. At our core, we all want the same things—health, happiness, and love.
If you ever feel like you’re not where you “should” be on your healing journey, remember this:
Healing is not a destination. It’s an unfolding process—one that always begins and ends right where you are.
